"I've had this lens for awhile and appreciate it more as time goes by. Previously, I used it exclusively on a tripod, but not lately. I take a lot of pictures of surfers and find that if I have sufficient light and can shoot at 1/1600 or higher the tripod isn't necessary."

"I'm a portrait photographer who loves close-ups but sometimes I just need a break from people, so I use this lens on my Nikon D300 to photograph wildlife for my own pleasure. Wow what a lens! It brings stuff in just where I want it to be."

"Bought this lens for bird and nature photography. My copy was not sharp at all despite many efforts to get a clear picture I finally returned it."

I have a D3100, and no real skills as a photographer, and not much money. But, I love wildlife and taking photos- will this be a good combo for taking pictures of animals from a moderate distance?
