The lens doesn't have a focus motor in it.  It's designed for Nikon's film cameras and full-frame DSLRs, all of which have built-in focus motors.  It's only the cheaper models of cropped-frame Nikon DSLRs (e.g. the D40, D60, D3000, etc.) that don't have focus motors.  You therefore need a lens with its own motor on those models.

If  my Nikon doesnt have a focus motor built into the camera....does this Sigma have a focus motor in it self?  Otherwise whats the point of buying non-Nikon equipment?
