This lens is absolutely nonpareil! I especially appreciate the close-up focus possibility. Even though it is not 1:1, you can catch objects that nearly touch the front lens (maybe 1cm or less). I could find no other standard zoom lens enabling that. Beware : the lens will often shade your subject at that distance!

It is sharp enough, but my copy is not perfectly centered and the left of landscape photos is sometimes so-so. F/2.8 is appreciable and the bokeh is very decent. The HSM makes focusing very fast on the K-5.

Cons: the OS (stabilization) is useless on Pentax bodies (shake reduction built in the sensor), the lens is therefore a bit heavier than necessary, and something wobbles in it. Also the manual focus ring is not really usable (not precise enough). The AF/MF button is redundant with the button on the body. You cannot MF if it is on AF, even if the body is on MF. This can be a bit annoying at times. Also the filter is 72mm (thanks F/2.8!) and filters of that size are pretty expensive.

Despite those trifles, I couldn't go without it now.
