i am a camera/lense newby - purchased an Olympus Zuiko 70-300mm f/4 - 5.6 ED lense for my Olympus E-PM2 camera but the lens mount was too big for the camera. The lens was supposed to be compatible - how could this be compatible? please help

Despite the above specs, it *does have* a focus motor... it just doesn't seem like it sometimes.
