Canon EF 400mm f/4 DO IS USM Photo #17 Focus

Most Canons need an aperture of at least f5.6 in order to autofocus. Series 1 bodies will focus an f8, but only on the horizontal element of the center point. The servo mode is very fast and accurate, but only if you coax it close first. It will give up rather than try to hunt the full range of travel. Here's a situation that's particularly tricky. There are plant stems in the foreground which go right in front of the bird and can capture the focus. Here I've got it right.
