"It's worked great so far, especially in low light situations like indoor events or taking pics at dusk."

"It is fantastically sharp, fast to focus on my 350D, light and easy to hand hold. It is nicely balanced even with the 2X converter in place."

bhphotovideo.com

"The only downside of this lens I've experienced so far is that the MFD of about 5 feet is a little disappointing, it's definitely not a macro."

Canon EF 200mm f/2.8L II USM is a great short telephoto prime lens. I serves the purpose very well. I always use it with 1.4x extender making it 280mm and on the 1.6 APS-C bodies it provides 448mm equivalent of reach of full-frame. Not bad really.

However, the 1.4x extender pushes down the widest aperture to f/4 that is still quite fast. In good light, I use f/8 to get the sharpest aperture. IMO, this is enthusiasts' low-light short telephoto. Perhaps it's not meant for pros. Didn't observe any of them using it.

For an enthusiast like me; it's all that I need for the close-in captures of wildlife. For the longer distance needs; EF 400mm f/5.6L USM is our lens. Now, this will autofocus with 1.4x extender on Canon EOS 7D Mk II at f/8. Enough for prosumers.
